What Yue is

Yue is a digital companion that shares cultural and informational content rooted in Chinese postpartum tradition (坐月子). Yue is not a medical service. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. It does not replace your midwife, health visitor, GP, or obstetrician.

Health, regulatory, and safety

We make no health, nutrition, medicinal, or therapeutic claims about any food, drink, or herb featured in Yue. Where we describe a dish using traditional Chinese medicine concepts (such as “driving out wind” or “rebuilding blood”), we are reporting cultural meaning, not asserting a medical effect. We have written the app in line with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code), the UK Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation, EU Regulation 1924/2006, and the Nederlandse Reclame Code.

For heavy bleeding, fever, severe pain, signs of infection, signs of postnatal depression, or any thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, contact your midwife or call 111 (UK) or 112 (NL or rest of EU) without delay. In an immediate emergency call 999 (UK) or 112 (NL / EU).

Some traditional ingredients and herbs may not be appropriate during breastfeeding, with prescription medication, or with certain conditions including clotting disorders. Always check with your clinician.

Data we hold

What stays on your device

  • Onboarding details: due date, birth date, birth type, postcode, the name you go by, partner’s first name and phone number.
  • Your customisations: recipes you opted out of, dishes you added, items already in your pantry, the language you chose.
  • Your acceptance of the medical disclaimer.
  • A random anonymous device identifier (a UUID stored in your browser’s localStorage) used only for our internal analytics. No advertising IDs, no fingerprinting.

What lives on our servers

We host with Supabase (servers physically located in the EEA, encrypted at rest, all traffic over HTTPS).

  • If you paid for Yue: your email address, the Mollie payment ID, the country and currency of the payment, and the most recent time you signed in from a new device. This is what makes cross-device sign-in work.
  • If you invited a partner, mother, or caregiver to view your forty days: their email address and the household record connecting them to your plan.
  • If you sent or received a Yue gift: the gift record (recipient email, redemption token, paid status, optional personal note).
  • Anonymous usage events (which pages you opened, which paywall you saw, whether you skipped a dish), tied only to the random device identifier above. No personal information, no IP, no real name.
  • One-time sign-in tokens created when you request a magic link. These expire one hour after issue and are deleted after use.

What we never hold

  • Your due date, birth date, postcode, or partner’s phone number. These stay on your device.
  • Your payment card, bank details, or any financial credentials. Mollie processes these; we receive only confirmation of a successful payment.
  • Your IP address. Vercel reads it once per visit to detect your country (so we default the currency picker), then we set a cookie with the country code (“uk” or “nl”) and discard the IP.

Legal basis for processing

We process the data above on three legal bases under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG) and, for UK users, the UK GDPR.

  • Performance of contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): when you pay for Yue, we need your email address to deliver access to you and to recognise you when you sign in from another device.
  • Explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)): your due date, birth date, and birth type are health data and fall under Article 9 of the GDPR as special category data. Processing this category of data requires your explicit consent. You give that consent when you enter the information during onboarding, acknowledged by the medical disclaimer dialog. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing all data in Settings or by emailing hello@yuesaozi.com to request deletion of your account.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): for anonymous internal analytics. We use this only for our own product analytics. No advertising, no profiling, no third-party analytics SDKs. We have documented the balancing test required under Art. 6(1)(f) and can share it on request.

Refunds

3-day refund, no questions asked. Email hello@yuesaozi.com and we will refund you in full within two working days.

Pricing & affiliate disclosure

Pricing shown for retailers is taken from publicly listed prices and may be out of date. Always confirm at checkout. Some retailer links may include an affiliate tag, which never increases the price you pay.

Data controller & contact

Yue is operated by Fair Comparisons Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel). Data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG) and, where users are based in the United Kingdom, the UK GDPR.

UK GDPR representative

Yue is currently in a closed Internal Testing phase with a small group of named beta testers and no general public availability in the United Kingdom. We believe the Article 27(2) UK GDPR exemption applies for this phase, given the occasional, small-scale nature of the processing. Before Yue opens to public UK availability, we will appoint a UK GDPR Article 27 representative and update this page with their name and contact details.

Until then, UK data subjects can write to hello@yuesaozi.com with any data-protection question or rights request, and we will respond within 30 days under the same procedure as for NL / EU users.

Changes to this notice

We update this notice when our data practices change. The current version and its last-updated date are at the top of this page. If a change meaningfully affects your rights, we will notify you by email (for paid users) or surface a banner in the app on next launch.
