A meal plan paced by tradition.
Sheng hua tang (生化汤) in week one to release. Dang gui (当归) chicken from day eight to close. Ginger wine chicken only when your body is ready. Adapted for natural birth and C-section, and for the tradition you grew up with.
Your po po’s voice, every morning.
One line of wisdom every morning · the kind she would say if she were in the room. In Mandarin (简体中文) with English underneath, for the forty days you are doing this far from where the tradition lives.
You don’t do the forty days alone.
Send this week’s shopping list to your partner on WhatsApp in one tap · pack sizes, shops near you, no explaining from bed. A separate list of dry ingredients your mum can pack before she flies over. She comes prepared.
Forty days, four phases.
Your body is clearing what it no longer needs. Warm liquid and gentle congee. Rest is the work of this week.
The bleeding has slowed. Dang gui (当归) returns to the kitchen, simmered slowly so the warmth comes back.
The main tonification window. Ten-herb tonic, ginger wine chicken, deep collagen soups. Thirteen days of patient building.
Sustain and transition. Snow fungus and barley balance the warmth of the build phase. The world is coming closer again, on your timing.
I knew confinement postpartum was what I really wanted. I am Singaporean. My husband is Dutch. We are in the Netherlands and expecting our first child.
I did not want to give up the forty days just because they were harder here. So I started writing down what my mother would have told me. The order of the dishes, what to skip in week one after a C-section, where to buy dang gui (当归) in Rotterdam. Then I realised how many of us there were. Yue is for every Chinese-heritage mother building this tradition somewhere new.

What mothers ask first.
I had a C-section. Will the plan be safe for me?
Yes. Yue applies different timing rules for natural birth and C-section. Stronger herbs and ginger wine chicken are pushed back about a week so your incision can heal first. Set this in onboarding or in Settings, and the plan adapts.
Are these foods safe while I am breastfeeding?
The dishes here are food, eaten in Chinese postpartum tradition. We do not claim that any food increases milk supply. Recipes that use rice wine come with a clear note: time feeds two to three hours after eating, or skip the wine. If you take any medication or have a complication, run the herb-based decoctions past your midwife or GP first.
Do I have to be Chinese to use this?
No. The tradition is rooted in Chinese postpartum care, but the food is for any new mother who wants warm, slow, intentional nourishment in the first forty days. The cultural notes will mean more if Chinese postpartum food is your inheritance.
How does the partner shopping list work?
On the shopping page, you tap 'Send to partner on WhatsApp'. They get a message with the week's ingredients, the right pack size for each, and where to buy each one near you. They don't have to install Yue if they don't want to. They can if they prefer.
Where is my data stored?
The most personal details stay on your device. Your due date, birth date, postcode, and partner's phone never leave your phone. On our servers (Supabase, encrypted, located in the EEA) we hold only what we need to recognise you across devices: your email, the country and currency of your payment, and the Mollie payment ID. Card details go to Mollie, never to us. The full breakdown lives on the privacy page.
What is the refund policy?
Three days, no questions asked. Email hello@yuesaozi.com and we will refund you in full within two working days.
Can I use Yue if I am not in the UK or the Netherlands?
The recipes and the daily plan work anywhere. The weekly shopping list, however, is currently routed for two markets: in the UK we suggest SeeWoo, Wing Yip, and Ocado; in the Netherlands we suggest Wah Nam Hong, Albert Heijn, and your local slagerij. Outside those two countries, you'll see a generic ingredient list (no shop-specific routing) and you can shop wherever you usually do. If you'd like us to add your country, tell us at hello@yuesaozi.com. We keep a list and prioritise based on demand.
