Dang gui ("female ginseng") is the herb most associated with rebuilding postpartum blood. Introduce only from week 2, earlier is too warming while lochia is still active.

Dang gui (Chinese angelica) 当归
10g
Astragalus root 黄芪
6 dates
Red dates (jujube) 红枣
1 tbsp
Goji berries 枸杞子
4 slices
Old ginger 老姜
Method · 做法

Blanch chicken in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and rinse, this removes scum.

Place chicken in a clay pot or heavy pan with 1.8L cold water. Add ginger, dang gui, huang qi, dates.

Bring to boil, then reduce to a low simmer with the lid on for 75–90 minutes.

Add goji in the last 5 minutes. Salt lightly only at serving.
