Yue月 · forty days

You are 5,000 miles from home. You will be running on three hours of sleep. You are already doing beautifully.

Yue is a 40-day app for Chinese postpartum confinement (坐月子, zuo yue zi). Today’s dish, this week’s shopping list, the cultural notes your po po would give you over the stove. Built for diaspora Chinese mothers in the UK and the Netherlands.

What you get · 内容

Three things, every day.

Today’s dish.

A meal plan paced to your forty days: tonic, soup, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Different for natural birth and C-section. Sheng hua tang (生化汤) week one. Dang gui (当归) chicken from day eight. Ginger wine chicken only when your body is ready.

This week’s shopping list.

Aggregated across SeeWoo, Wing Yip, and Ocado. One tap to send to your partner on WhatsApp.

Your po po’s voice, every day.

A daily one-sentence wisdom card in Mandarin (简体中文) with the English translation underneath. Forty days, forty different sentences, the kind a grandmother would say.

Yue · Day 1 of forty. The welcome-home screen shows the Recovery phase header, the Po Po Speaks card in Mandarin Simplified (欢迎回家 · Welcome home), and the start of today's meal plan.

Loved by

Four diaspora mothers in the Netherlands, Singapore, and Australia. All four are using Yue right now.

Why this exists · 为什么

The forty days are harder abroad.

Three things mothers tell us, again and again.

文化的距离

Mum can’t fly. Po po is a phone call away.

The knowledge lives in their kitchens, and you are in another kitchen, on another continent. The names you grew up hearing, with no-one in the room to pace them for you.

脑雾

Decision fatigue, on three hours of sleep.

Week one is not the week to Google “is it too early for ginger?” at 2am. Yue decides it for you, in the right order.

老公不懂

Your partner wants to help, but doesn’t know how.

He wasn’t raised inside this tradition. Translating it from your bed, in pain, is its own kind of work. Yue does the translation.

A glimpse · 一瞥

Forty days, four phases.

What the body is going through, and why we eat what we eat. Four moments along the arc.

1
Recovery排恶露

Your body is clearing what it no longer needs. Warm liquid and gentle congee help that close. Rest is the work of this week.

8
Rebuild补血

The bleeding has slowed. The body is rebuilding blood. Dang gui (当归) returns to the kitchen, simmered slowly so the warmth comes back.

15
Tonify补气驱风

Cold has had time to settle in. This week the food drives it out. Ginger, sesame oil, and the warming dishes po po would not bring sooner.

30
Restore强身

The body has been deeply nourished. Lighter foods come back. The world is coming closer again, on your timing.

For the people around you · 身边的人

You don’t do the forty days alone.

Yue is built for one mother, and shaped to make life easier for the two people most likely to be cooking with her.

给老公 · For your partner

He stops asking. He starts cooking.

Tap once, send him this week’s shopping list on WhatsApp with the right pack size for each ingredient and where to buy it nearby. He reads what arrives. He doesn’t need to install Yue if he doesn’t want to.

The translating, you don’t do from bed.

给妈妈 · For your mum

If she is flying over, she comes prepared.

Mama’s suitcase is a list of dry ingredients she can pack before getting on the plane. Goji, dried longan, red dates, huang qi, the things that travel well and cost less back home. You can also share a single recipe with her, with a personal note, when you want her to see what you’re eating that week.

The forty days are her tradition too. We make space for her in the app.

Everything inside · 全部内容

The forty days, ready for you.

Why £29 · 关于价钱

What you don’t have to pay.

The forty days are a real tradition, and outside of Asia they have a real cost. Here is what you would normally pay.

Hiring a confinement nanny here

If you can find one, four to six weeks live-in. Most diaspora mothers find this is not on the table.

£3,000 to £5,000

Flying mum or po po over

Round-trip flight only. Visa applications, time off, and her being away from her own life are extra.

£1,500 round-trip

Yue, for forty days

One time. No subscription. First week complimentary so you can feel the rhythm before you decide.

£29

Yue is not a confinement nanny and not your mother. It’s the part of their knowledge that fits in your pocket.

From the founder · 创办人的话

I am Singaporean. My husband is Dutch. We are in the Netherlands and expecting our first child. My mother and aunts cannot fly to us for the forty days.

My husband is fully on board, he just does not know what dang gui (当归) is, or which week sheng hua tang (生化汤) has to stop. So I wrote it down. The order of the dishes, what to skip in week one if I have a C-section, where to buy fish maw in Amsterdam. Then I noticed there were a lot of us. Yue is for every Chinese-heritage mother living somewhere that has made this tradition harder.

Questions · 问

What mothers ask first.

I had a C-section. Will the plan be safe for me?+

Yes. Yue applies different timing rules for natural birth and C-section. Stronger herbs and ginger wine chicken are pushed back about a week so your incision can heal first. Set this in onboarding or in Settings, and the plan adapts.

Are these foods safe while I am breastfeeding?+

The dishes here are food, eaten in Chinese postpartum tradition. We do not claim that any food increases milk supply. Recipes that use rice wine come with a clear note: time feeds two to three hours after eating, or skip the wine. If you take any medication or have a complication, run the herb-based decoctions past your midwife or GP first.

Do I have to be Chinese to use this?+

No. The tradition is rooted in Chinese postpartum care, but the food is for any new mother who wants warm, slow, intentional nourishment in the first forty days. The cultural notes will mean more if Chinese postpartum food is your inheritance.

How does the partner shopping list work?+

On the shopping page, you tap 'Send to partner on WhatsApp'. They get a message with the week's ingredients, the right pack size for each, and where to buy each one near you. They don't have to install Yue if they don't want to. They can if they prefer.

Where is my data stored?+

The most personal details stay on your device. Your due date, birth date, postcode, and partner's phone never leave your phone. On our servers (Supabase, encrypted, located in the EEA) we hold only what we need to recognise you across devices: your email, the country and currency of your payment, and the Mollie payment ID. Card details go to Mollie, never to us. The full breakdown lives on the privacy page.

What is the refund policy?+

Three days, no questions asked. Email hello@yuesaozi.com and we will refund you in full within two working days.

Can I use Yue if I am not in the UK or the Netherlands?+

The recipes and the daily plan work anywhere. The weekly shopping list, however, is currently routed for two markets: in the UK we suggest SeeWoo, Wing Yip, and Ocado; in the Netherlands we suggest Wah Nam Hong, Albert Heijn, and your local slagerij. Outside those two countries, you'll see a generic ingredient list (no shop-specific routing) and you can shop wherever you usually do. If you'd like us to add your country, tell us at hello@yuesaozi.com. We keep a list and prioritise based on demand.
